Dot Containment

There should be a 12 step craft hoarders recovery class for people like me.  I see something I like and I have to have it in every color.  Just because.  I might use it one day.  You never know when you'll need  this.  You name it, I've used it to justify.

I'm not sure where my first package of dots came from (MME maybe?) but I've been collecting them since I held a package in my hands and fell in love with those awesome little enamel circles.

So in love with them, they I scouted places that sold them, joined group buys, grabbed 2 daily deals off a daily deals site, cleared the peg in my local scrapbook store......

I've amassed quite a collection.  I have them in their packets, not organized.  I would need to flip through the entire stack to find the right color and size each time I wanted to use them.  The fact that the colors were mixed on the cars.... *gasp*

I needed organization.

Of course, you turn to Pinterest.  Nothing.  Come on.  There has to be another dot hoarder out there like me and she *has* to have them organized better.

And then this rolled through my Pinterest account.....

Oh yes!  Exactly what I need.  I found a plastic drawer at Target that was perfect.  I sat one afternoon and *cut* each set into color groups.  I hand made cardstock dividers with tabs and started loading them into this perfect solution.

Epic fail.  I didn't even take a picture because they just slid everywhere and the colors were mixed...again.

Back to the drawing board.  I had this great drawer thing and I was determined to find a way to use it.  My idea was to find a mini file folder cut file on the Silhouette.  If I had a way to 'brace' them in the drawer it would work better.  For sure.

Instead I found this cut.

How perfect is this??  I grabbed one sheet of cardstock in every color of the rainbow and cut a little folder for each color.

Yes, I have two blue folders.  I apparently like blue.  My purple and black seemed lacking so I purchased a few more sheets of black and purple dots from Studio Calico.  I may need a second one of these drawers things to hold some variety packs or other random dots (like the anchors!)

I like having the option to grab the color folder I need and finding the right shape and size.

Here's the funny part.  I finally had time to myself in my craft room and I work on this.  Not actually using my product but organizing it.

Someone posted this to the Scraptastic Kit Club Facebook page the other day and I realized its *so* me.
Add a large chunk for organizing!

Workspace Wednesday - 5/15

I'm ashamed to post this mess.  I've kept the room relatively clean since getting the new desk but since coming back from my retreat, this is the state its been in.  I need to spend some time in here this weekend getting it back to where it needs to be.

To play along see Julia's post every Wednesday.

Despite the calendar in the picture, it is May.  I really am bad about changing it.  There is a stack of unfinished cards, flowers from my anniversary and random other bits hanging out looking for a home.  In fact, a lot of spaces in my room have been getting a good cleaning out.

I recently cleaned out my Project Life bin for a fresh start.  That means I have two boxes of cards and random bits for sale.  Check out the Flickr page and see if you'd like to give anything a good home.

WOYWW

The final remnants of Halloween party planning and some unfinished layouts.  Yes, the same unfinished layouts that were there a week ago.  And the week before that.

WOYWW 173

Two weeks in a row!
I finally got this corner figured out.  My son's little table was here but he moved it out into his play area a couple of weeks ago.  So all of the 'stuff' hiding underneath was just sitting there.  After a trip to Ikea for a 2x2 Expedit I got it all cleaned up.  The two black boxes in the top cubes are the ribbons for the Stringery Shop.  I've got them all contained in those big boxes which is nice.  All by color.
I moved my box of twine and the store supply of twine to the top shelf.  By moving that stuff off my actual desk it freed up some space.
And these little bowls moved too.  I picked these up at Crate & Barrel a couple of months ago to hold all of my Studio Calico veneer and my TwoGirlz tags from Etsy.  Sadly her shop is closed now but I have a nice little stash.

WOYWW 172

Its been a long time since I did this but here's my desk:

That pile is my unfinished projects.  I'm slowly finishing them and getting them posted here.
My new washi stand.  I get about 2 new rolls a week so the overflow is in my spinning rack.

Halloween Party invites.  Very excited to get these finished.
Some Studio Calico veneer stars.  I have enough of these to probably wallpaper a wall in my room.  I love them.

WOYWW 160

I've managed to carve out crafty time these past two weeks.  I do miss hockey but it sure is nice to sit down and play with that *huge* stack of new supplies that came in while I was screaming my crazy head off.

So, here's my desk on an early Wednesday morning....

See this?  Cute right?  Its a plastic margarita glass from Target.  I had to get it.  My old flair storage wasn't really working for me.  It was nice but I needed something 'cute' to keep on my desk.  On my weekly trip to Target, I saw these in the summer section and knew it would look cute filled with my Flair.

Follow up to WOYWW 6/6

I really wish I could get Blogger to update to the version where I can reply to posts!

I left comments on as many blogs as I could get too!  Sorry!

To answer some questions.

Train Whistle:  My son leaves things in here.  Usually its an actual train but today it was the whistle.  ;)  Last week I had an entire Thomas the Train setup under there.

The Kings - the Los Angeles Kings to be exact.  I'm am a HUGE hockey fan.  Fan might be an understatement.  I live and breath this team and I have since I was born.  Sounds crazy right?  Well, my family has been around since day 1.  My grandfather (A former pro hockey player in Toronto) worked as a goal judge for the team.  So my mom and her sister grew up at the Forum.  Then I came along and I became the next generation rink rat.  I went to my first game at 2 months old.  There is a lot of history there.  The team had never been to the Finals until 1993.  They lost.  Its been 19 years and now they're back.  So to say this is huge is also an understatement.  They had a chance to sweep the New Jersey Devils tonight but didn't get it done.  I'm not too worried since their perfect on the road in the playoffs.  Too bad they couldn't win it here tonight so we could all celebrate but I'll take a win whenever, wherever.

The teal tool carousel on my desk.  Its a tool thing from Harbor Freight.  Here's a direct link to the thing.

Spinning Rack

And here is a picture I posted back in February when I shared my room:

I painted it using some Teal/Robins Egg Blue spray paint.  You can kind of see what I have stored in it.  And yes it spins!  Someone asked that.  I keep my Mister Hueys and masks in the top, washi tape takes up the entire second tier.

And my Calendar - Its a Twilight one.  I'm horrible about changing the months.

WOYWW 6/6

I took a quick picture of my desk right now.  I've left it in mid-project because of some insane playoff games going on right now.

Tonight *could* be the very last one of the season if *my* Kings win.  Fingers crossed everyone!

Here's my desk.

I've got toner from Staples - lots of photo printing going on....

Some Echo Park papers - A Boys Life and a half finished layout using some of those papers.

My son's train whistle.  NO clue how that got there.

Season 4 DVD's of Dawson's Creek.

WOYWW 5/23

If you're curious about the WOYWW, check out Julia's blog.

Here's my desk this week.

An order from Stop & Scrap.
A few Studio Calico stamps.  They had a Mothers Day sale I couldn't resist!

 New washi tape.....
New Studio Calico masks.....
And these little bowls from Crate & Barrell......  they hold my Studio Calico veneer.  Each one has a different design.  This one holds my stars.

Isn't that happy?  I got two more boxes of stars in this week.  That brings the total to 10 boxes and for some reason, I want to order more!  I need a full bowl and right now, its about half full.

Somewhere under the new stuff is Project Life Week 15.  (Yeah, I'm that far behind!)

WOYWW 5/9

Its been a few weeks since I've posted but thats because I haven't been spending too much time in this room.

This is part of the NSD aftermath.  I'm slowing finishing up projects and cleaning up the mess.  I finally took some pictures the other day of my layouts and cards and now I have to edit them and find the time to get them posted here.

But here is my desk.

I made a few changes.  My little sewing desk that I stole from my  mother - broke.  So I replaced it with this handy little number I found at Target.  Its a student desk or something.  Whatever, it was small but sturdy and now holds my BIG card catalog.  I needed to get it off my actual work desk because it was taking up too much space.  I felt like I was building a fort around me.  ;)

Now I feel more out in the open.

And my washi tape collection (that grows by a few rolls each week) is within reach.
I noticed two things.

1.  I need to change the calendar!  Whoops!
2. My playoff beard is hanging off the DVD player.  I bought a playoff beard so I could join in with all the men growing out their beard for the NHL Playoffs.  It was that or stop shaving my legs.....

WOYWW 3/28

I lied.

Here's an update.  ;)

Not a big one. Just my workdesk today.  See?  I'm busy.  Somewhere in this pile are two mini albums in progress (one for me and one for my son).

I will finish these up tonight and be back soon with pictures!

I used up an entire sheet of October Afternoon label stickers.  I've been hoarding them and its time to let them go.
 Pressed pennies, washi, chevron ribbon........
more washi, pictures printed out from my Selphy.
And yes, I watch one version of Twilight at least once a day.  I keep New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn by the DVD player so I can pop one in whenever I feel like it.  I just saw the trailer for Breaking Dawn II and I'm a little upset.  I thought it came out in June this year but they pushed it back to November.  Grrrrr.....

WOYWW 3/21 + a {winner}

Right now, my desk is loaded with the items I'm taking on vacation with me.  I'm going to attempt to keep an Amy Tan daybook updated for the next 5 days.

We leave for Yosemite early tomorrow morning and we have a few fun things planned.

I'm taking my Selphy printer with me so I can print out photos.  This is my first time scrapping on the road. I've thought about it before and even went so far as to pack my stuff but I've never gone through with it.

Wish me luck! (The tote is from Thirty One.)

And I have a winner for The Stringery prize.

Congrats to:

Layouts

*Don't forget the giveaway that ends Friday.  Details HERE.*

I don't have a picture of my desk today but I do have some layouts that I finished recently.  I spent last Friday at a local store scrapping.  Suzanne Sergi was the crop host and she was fun to hang out with.

Here are just a couple that I got done.
Using some new My Minds Eye papers.

Can you see the transparency on that picture?  It was part of the same line and I thought it was a neat look.
The journaling along the bottom.   I spent one night doing the stitching while watching a movie with my husband.  I've been trying to get the basics done on layouts and then save a technique like this for later.
And this one too.  Both of these are my latest favorites.

I've been seeing these long banners on layouts all over the WWW so I thought I'd try one.  More My Minds Eye papers and embellishments.  I used my Epiphany Crafts star tool again.
