Using your stash

My 2011 promise to myself was that I would start using some of my older stash.....  So far, I've been able to work on several projects this year using that older stuff.  I get so locked into forcing myself to use the new stuff for the store that I put my old stuff aside.

I sat down last weekend and put together 4 layouts using older products.

Using an older Studio Calico kit.  Exclusive Sassafras papers and stickers with Websters Pages, Pink Paislee and Bella Blvd thrown in.

Pink Paislee Sweetness line combined with border stickers from the Crate Paper Portrait line, Studio Calico veneer hearts and Maya Road Love Words chipboard. Inked and covered with Glossy Accents.  Ink color is the new Jenni Bowlin Speckled Egg.

Pink Paislee School line from last fall.

Pink Paislee Sweetnness and Pink Paislee Soiree metal flags.

Link me up to some of your latest projects using older product.

Hung up

I received my Easy Canvas Prints canvas about a week ago and I fell instantly in love.  It looks so much better than I ever could have imagined.

My photo looks like a high quality painting.  Definitely going to order more of these.  (In fact, I have 2 more on their way to me right now.)

Not only was their site easy to navigate, they have every option you can imagine for making this canvas yours.

I had this one printed for my dad's birthday this year.  He's up in Calgary for a couple of years on a job and this was one of the pictures I took on my trip up in July.  One of his favorites.  So I had this one converted to the canvas for him to hang up somewhere in his apartment or office.

For blog purposes, I hung it up temporarily in the dining room behind the table.   Since we've had bad weather here lately, the lighting has been horrible.  Its overcast here almost every day so good lighting is at a premium.  But here is what the 16x20 looks like on our wall.

Pinterest

So you know by now I'm obsessed with this site.

I pin every day.

I've had some things pinned that I really wanted to copy.  Like these:

I'm slightly obsessed with maps but thats probably because I love to travel.  So I've been collecting maps for something someday and finally figured out what I wanted to do.

This is just the first of many map projects.

Excuse the glare - it was virtually impossible to photograph this without glare.
This pair is for my parents.  Just need to get another frame and make the heart.
Los Angeles and New York
 Us.  Germany and Los Angeles.
I have a third set of people for my grandparents - Edmonton and Nebraska.

The people are actually the Maya Road chip album. I used this one:

But there is a larger version.  Instead of getting 3 of each, you get 6 of each, but larger.  Mine are about 5 inches.  The larger set measures 8 inches.

If anyone is interested in making their own 'map people', I can stock the albums in the shop.

The Candyman Can

Remember the look on the kids faces in Willy Wonka?  Thats probably what I looked like when I took Nick into a local candy store.

But not your normal candy store.  Powell's Sweet Shoppe.  They carry mostly old candy favorites in the store including some international candy too!  I can find some Canadian chocolate bars in there which means I don't have to stock up whenever I'm up there.

They even have a Cotton Candy making machine.

Here's a little tour of Powell's.........

 The gum drawers.

Right when you walk in there have a vintage Coke cooler filled with bottle caps.  I grabbed a few thinking they were charging for them.  They were *free* so I took a few more.

And a cotton candy making machine.  You put money in and it spins fresh cotton candy.

 Check that out!

Then it dispenses it into the hands of an eager boy.

Some of the fun candy they offer

An entire wall dedicated to PEZ

And Willy Wonka playing on a continuous cycle in the back of the store.  You can't help but want to dance around while sampling everything they have just like the kids do in the factory.

Another fun thing you can find tucked away in different parts of the store are vintage toys.

Go Big!

I keep seeing people using LARGE photos on their pages but I never find that I have a picture to scrap that needs to be that *big*.

Until I took some of the pictures I did in Calgary.  Yes, Calgary again.  Sorry.

American Crafts papers and Thickers, Bakers Twine
And I've challenged myself to pull out an older line from my stash and use it.  I have too much and I end up purging twice a year and getting rid of papers I should be using.  Papers I HAD to have.

My MInds Eye papers and embellishments

One last one......

This is a mix of my stash and some scraps from a Studio Calico Kit.

 Crate Paper Alpha Labels
Bakers Twine to frame a object.  I also used some Tattered Angels Glitter Glam and Tim Holtz Crackle Paint on some of the squares.
